Google France has revealed the main trends in French searches for the year 2022.

vsAt the end of each year, Google France reveals the ranking of French searches on its search engine. If one topic looms large for 2022, it is the topic of the Russian invasion of Ukraine: the words Ukraine » and Russia » both appear in the year’s top 3 trends. The FIFA World Cup in Qatar takes overall second place. Actor Gaspard Ulliel, who died suddenly at the age of 37 in January, and the French presidential election complete the top 5.

“Through the requests of the French, we see a portrait that reflects the most important topics of this year”, commented Sébastien Missoffe, general manager of Google France, on Thursday, December 8, 2022, on France Info, recalling that this list was made in based on the biggest search peaks compared to the previous year.

The French also questioned their search engine a lot about practical issues related to the election, but also to the health crisis or the fuel shortage.

A slap in the face at the Oscars

A sign of the omnipresence of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022, in the first place of the most searched public figures on Google is Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, the top 5 in this category show different topics: Actor Will Smith, whose slap at the Oscars in March 2022 gained buzz, takes second place. He is followed by Elisabeth Borne, appointed as Matignon on May 16, 2022, Marine Le Pen, Emmanuel Macron’s main opponent in the presidential election, and finally Johnny Depp, whose trial against Amber Heard was the soap opera of the spring.
