This is the worst mosquito repellent, according to UFC-Que Choisir

UFC-Que Choisir magazine screened 19 products that are supposed to protect against tiger mosquito bites. The results reveal a large discrepancy.

Not all mosquito repellents are created equal. This is what emerges from a test carried out in the laboratory by the magazine UFC-What to choose. If some products are indeed effective, six references do not protect more than one hour from tiger mosquito bites, despite the high dose applied. This type of mosquito, more ferocious than the traditional mosquito, bites in broad daylight and can transmit diseases such as chikungunya, Zika or even dengue fever if it is infected itself.

In detail, test participants received 6 to 8 sprays of product on their forearm, before introducing it into a cage infested with tiger mosquitoes. The results show that six references provide up to nine hours of protection against bites, while six others provide protection for less than one hour. One brand in particular stands out because it manages to place one of its products at the top of the ranking and another… at the very end.

Insect Ecran Zones infestes 50% DEET thus wins the gold medal in this ranking with 18.1/20 when Insect Ecran Special Tropic 25% icaridin is one of the products not to buy. Overall, DEET-based products are the most effective. To avoid spending the summer scratching, you know what you have to do.
