- Covid-19 affects people in different ways: fever, cough, loss of smell…
- The majority of cases are not serious, but Covid-19 can be severe, even fatal.
Covid-19 can stay on refrigerated or frozen meat for several days, according to a new study published in the scientific journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology.
Survive up to 30 days
“As many cases of SARS-CoV-2 have been linked to meat-producing factories, it is possible that virus particles are transmitted during animal slaughter, storage or transport,” write the researchers in the preamble.
After various tests on fish and meat, the team found that viruses similar to those of Covid-19 could survive up to 30 days on food products stored in the refrigerator or freezer. “The ability of SARS-CoV-2 viral surrogates to survive on food products is an important and concerning finding,” say scientists. “Continued efforts are needed to prevent contamination of food and processing surfaces,” they conclude.
18,000 people hospitalized
In France, the seventh wave of Covid-19 is gaining momentum: the incidence rate has increased by 23% in one week, and 18,000 people are now hospitalized because of the disease.
“The French must find the right reflexes, (because) the virus will continue to circulate in waves”, recently declared the Minister of Health François Braun. “We cannot lower our guard as we have just passed the 150,000 death mark”, added the emergency doctor.
