He is still not arrived, but it is now possible to order it. Unveiled in 2017, the Tesla Semi, promised at the time for 2019, has been open for reservations since mid-May for a production now scheduled for 2023. On the company’s website, the magazine InsideEVs spotted that it was possible to order a vehicle by paying a first installment of 5 000 $, supplemented by a deposit of 15 000 $ within 10 days. This possibility is offered in the United States, as well as in Canada, Great Britain, Norway and the Netherlands. The manufacturer, whom we contacted, did not provide details on orders and deliveries for other European countries.
From 150 000 $ to 180 000$
As a reminder, this all-electric battery-powered truck must be powered by four independent motors on the rear axles, with a battery pack capable of guaranteeing a range of 480 km or 800 km. Its price seems low: 150 000 $(143 000 €) for the first version and 180 000 $(171 000 €) for the second.
The vehicle is able to accelerate from 0 to 96.5 km/h in 20 seconds through 4 independent motors, located on the rear axle. It must inherit the Autopilot assisted driving module, which currently offers a level autonomy 2 (with active driver monitoring). The trucks will be equipped with a rapid charging system, capable of recharging it to 80 % in 30 minutes, provided the vehicle is plugged into a Megacharger capable of producing 1 MW.
The shortage of electronic chips, as well as the difficulties in producing batteries, could however further postpone the final release of the Semi Tesla. These orders will at least have the merit of inflating the manufacturer’s coffers.
