This is a new problem that some Google Pixel 7 users seem to be facing. While the smartphone marketed by the Mountain View company appeared to be free of major defects so far, some users had the unpleasant surprise of seeing the glass on their rear sensor suddenly shatter, and by itself.
A user named Heydon Faber (@CSThrowaway on Twitter) had to share his misfortune by posting the picture of the back of his damaged smartphone on the social network with the following message: “Not even a month, no drops, just normal use. I have a case on the phone. They told me it was my problem. Is it really quality control provided by Google? It’s clearly a manufacturing defect and I know that I’m not the only one. Please fix this Google!”

Prior to this, similar cases have been repeatedly reported by users on Reddit and Twitter, so the case does not appear to be isolated. This phenomenon is all the more surprising since the Pixel 7 uses Gorilla Glass Victus, the latest glass standard for smartphones.
According to the various testimonies, the breaks do not come from a fall or a shock, and would appear suddenly. This could be due to a manufacturing or design fault or even the poor quality of the materials used.
If it’s a hardware fault on the smartphone, Google usually seems to take care of it. The company has not yet communicated on this subject. For some, reporting to Google would have been enough to get a refund. But not everyone seems to have been so lucky and some have been asked to pay the repair amount.
