“Israel is a powerhouse for cloud consumption – obviously that’s driven by Israeli startups,” explained Boaz Maoz, country director for Israel at Google Cloud. “They use the cloud because of the amount of data they have and also for the global scale: it’s easier for them to get closer to their customers using platforms like Google Cloud. I am very proud as an Israeli that Israel is a power, greater than many other countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa because of the startups, but also because of the banks, insurers and more traditional retailers are now moving to the cloud because of Nimbus. »
Nimbus is the result of a four-year journey in which the Israeli government selected a cloud company to help deliver better services to government entities and local citizens. The project marks the first time the country’s government has taken such an initiative, and Google has been selected as one of two vendors, along with Amazon Web Services (AWS), to help the government achieve its goal.
“There is a need to build what we call a ‘local region’, local data centers that will reside in Israel according to Israeli regulations and that will provide cloud services where data will remain in Israel for the next 23 years,” he said. explained Maoz.
