Sundar Pichai, the boss of Google, returned to the scene after two years of pandemic and Google I / O to follow on the Internet. By way of introduction, the boss of the Mountain View firm mentioned the conflict in Ukraine, and the Google Translate tool, which would help some Ukrainian refugees to make themselves understood in neighboring countries. An introduction which will also have served to explain that the tool now supports 24 new languages. Languages spoken by 300 million people across parts of Asia, Africa and South America, further expanding the reach of Google Translate. “More people are using Google Translate than ever before, but we still have work to do to make it universally accessible”commented Sundar Pichai.
Important point: these 24 new languages are the first to be added using AI Zero-Shot Machine Translation, a machine learning model that would be able to translate one language into another without ever needing to access or see the other language.
