Engaged in a race against Tesla, GM intends to quickly electrify its best-selling models. The new Blazer EV mid-range SUV will be presented on July 18.
GM’s major electrification plan (the latest at least) symbolically began with the GMC Hummer and the Cadillac Lyriq. Serious things are now starting, with models intended to make volume. It is therefore the Chevrolet brand that sticks to it with the planned electrification of its most common names, knowing that there is currently no sedan in the American range.
The stars go electric
After the Silverado pick-up, the brand’s best seller, then the Equinox SUV, the best-selling passenger car, Chevrolet continues to expand its catalog by switching its stars to electric. Models sold in parallel with the petrol versions which remain in the catalog for the moment.
The electric Chevrolet Silverado will hit the roads from 2023
The next name in the list as well is the Blazer. A name revived only a few years ago and which designates a family SUV with a more dynamic style. The all-new Blazer EV will be presented on July 18 and Chevrolet is now offering us the first photo of it. The dynamic positioning is confirmed, with the added bonus of a tall version featuring the SS badge. A first for an electric Chevrolet.
This new Blazer EV will be based on the Ultium platform. We do not yet know the detailed characteristics, but it could take over the 100 kWh battery, the 250 kW motorization and the 190 kW load of its cousin Cadillac Lyriq. It will however be produced in Mexico with the Equinox and not in Tennessee like the Lyriq.
This Blazer EV could be part of GM’s revival plans in Europe.
