Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt coming to Apple TV+

Apple has just announced that it has reached an agreement for the distribution of the next film by Joseph Kosinski, director of Top Gun: Maverick.

Apple has just announced that it has signed a deal for a Formula 1 racing movie with Brad Pitt in the lead role. According to information from the always well informed by The Hollywood Reporter, Apple took more than five months to obtain the agreement from Joseph Kosinski. For the moment, the agreement brings together Kosinski, who recently distinguished himself for the production of Top Gun: Maverick and other members of the film production team.

Always according to HollywoodReporter, writer Ehren Kruger and producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman would also be in on it. The agreement explains that the film should have the right to be released in theaters, between 30 and 60 days before ending up on Apple’s streaming platform.

A film first available in cinemas

A fairly exotic practice in the world of SVOD platforms, the latter being rather used to offering their new films exclusively on their platforms. This is the case of Netflix with its productions, but also of Disney + with films like Milan which were only entitled to a broadcast on Mickey’s SVOD platform.

But for Apple, things are different. Indeed, this is not the first time that the apple brand accepts that a film for which it has acquired the rights is found in the cinema. This was particularly the case for the two feature films “Wolfwalkers” and “The Tragedy of Macbeth” and everything suggests that Apple will continue in this direction and further develop the release in dark rooms of the platform’s films.

Formula 1: a new El Dorado for directors?

Regarding the subject of Kosinski’s film, for the moment nothing has leaked except the general theme: Formula 1. The queen competition of motorsport is on the rise, in particular thanks to another platform of SVOD and Apple has already shown its interest in the discipline in the past.

At the beginning of the year, we learned that the Cupertino company was to produce a documentary on the life of British driver Lewis Hamilton, considered by some to be the best of all time behind the wheel. This documentary should be released at the end of 2022, although no official launch date has yet been given by Apple.
