In the 3 privileged scenarios, none understands the sudden disappearance of the Covid.
While the world was gradually returning to its pre-pandemic daily life, Europe has been suffering for several weeks 7th intense wave of Covid. Driven by a spread of subvariants BA.4 and BA.5the number of hospitalizations and contaminations continues to increase.
If the future evolution of Covid remains uncertain, a Spanish scientist has revealed the 3 potential scenarios of the global pandemic future.
The most likely scenario: continuous mutations
The Spanish scientist, Agustin Portela, who works as a manager at the Spanish Medicines Agency, spoke of three main scenarios linked to the future of Covid. In no case does he imagine the disappearance of the virus.

According to the scientist’s expertise, reported by El Mundo, the continuation of the mutations of the virus remains the most considered possibility. As long as vaccines possess compositional similarities with the virus, “there may be a large circulation of the virus but no increase in severe cases“, explains Agustin Portela.

The infectious trajectory could change abruptly
In another scenario, which the expert describes as complex and unlikely, the Covid protein which allows the virus to attach to human cells, could evolve. This would mean a potential change of “tropism” or “direction” of the virus, which would reach new human cells. In this case, the incidence of Covid could totally to change.

A final scenario foresees that another Covid protein binds to human cells. This event could also transform the face of the virus from indefinitely. The expert adds, however, that people who have already been infected with Covid would have antibody familiars, who could protect them. On the contrary, only vaccinated individuals, or non-vaccinated and non-contaminated individuals could be affected more seriously.
