A French study recently indicated that treatments with hydroxychloroquine had caused the death of 16,274 people in 8 countries. A study that makes people react.
Did the miracle treatment of which Professor Didier Raoult made himself the great defender cause the death of thousands of people?
A French study published last week assures us. For scientists from the University of Lyon, hydroxychloroquine would have caused the death of 16,274 people in eight countries during the first wave of Covid-19.
Presented at the congress of the French Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (SFPT), this study was taken up by the very serious agency APMnews and throws a huge stone into the pond.
The ineffectiveness of hydroxychloroquine is no longer to be proven
Invited to speak on the subject in the program C à Vous on France 5, Professor Fontanet, member of the Scientific Council, refused to speak on this study but he recalled that all the studies carried out seriously had, until here, demonstrated “the ineffectiveness of hydroxychloroquine treatments and that the scientific community agreed on this”.
“The most interesting study on the subject carried out in Great Britain already noted that hydroxychloroquine, in particular associated with other treatments, had undesirable effects such as heart rhythm disorders and that there was a slight excess mortality.
Hydroxychloroquine and Covid-19: Didier Raoult’s miracle treatment would have led to the death of 16,274 people according to a recent scientific study.

But for Professor Arnaud Fontanet, also a researcher at the Institut Pasteur, “the bottom line is that this treatment, which was not effective and we saw it very quickly and which caused adverse effects and a slight excess mortality, could also deprive people of chances who thought they were protected when they were not”. Many have actually taken hydroxychloroquine preventively or as soon as the first symptoms appear.
And Professor Fontanet calls for “staying on simple scientific evaluation standards”. “The double-blind controlled trial, there is nothing simpler to evaluate a treatment”. This is also the main criticism of the scientific community to the tests carried out at the time by Didier Raoult and his teams at the IHU Méditerranée.
