It is a miracle. A man who had less than a year to live has now been cured of cancer thanks to a UK trial of a new drug treatment, an amazing story reported by The Mirror. Named Robert Glynn and aged 51, he suffered from severe shoulder pain which prevented him from sleeping. Concerned, he therefore went to his GP and had scans and blood tests done. But nothing came out.
It wasn’t until August 2020 that his cancer was discovered by chance when he contracted a gallbladder infection. As a reminder, bile duct cancer has few treatment options. It was also advanced and had spread to his adrenal gland.

Faced with this situation, doctors offered him the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial of immunotherapy. “I struck”, he explained with great gratitude. The treatment was intended to help the immune system fight the cancer. It was mixed with chemotherapy. And then a miracle happened. The tumors shrank until they disappeared completely. The surgeons found only dead tissue. “I feel very lucky”he added, expressing his gratitude.
Cholangiocarcinoma, or cancer of the bile ducts, is a rare and aggressive tumor. Around 2,000 people are affected each year in France, more men than women. As Hospices Civils de Lyon reminds us, the symptoms are often late and not very specific.
