Apple releases iOS 15.5, tvOS 15.5 and watchOS 8.6

After several weeks in beta, it’s the big day for iOS 15.5, tvOS 15.5 and watchOS 8.6 with the release tonight of the final versions, available now for all users.

As often, it is iOS that brings the greatest number of new features. However, we feel that WWDC 2022 is coming and with it the presentation of iOS 16: the changes to iOS 15.5 remain rather minor. Apple indicates three main new features in the release notes: the ability for Apple Cash users to send or request money from their Apple Cash card, a new setting for the Podcasts app that allows you to limit the number episodes stored on the iPhone or iPad and automatically delete old episodes, and fixing a bug that could cause home automations triggered when people leave or arrive to fail.

iOS 15.5 also contains some secrets that have been revealed in recent weeks with four other changes that are not made official by Apple: the update prepares the opening of the App Store to external links for reader applications, introduces a new name for iTunes Pass, which becomes Apple Account and supports Bancomat and Bancontact in the Maps application, implements a system to exclude certain sensitive locations from Memories in the Photos application, and supports the future Apple Classic application.

As for tvOS 15.5, we do not know at the moment what changes have been made, but the beta version phase has not revealed any novelties directly visible to the end user for the moment. It’s the same for watchOS 8.6 with one difference: this update brings support for the ECG app and arrhythmia notifications for Mexican users.
