Alleged Google Pixel 7 Pro prototype pops up on reddit

Another alleged Google Pixel 7 prototype has surfaced, this time from a Reddit user who says I bought it from the facebook marketplace. It’s apparently a Pixel 7 Pro, which according to Redditor AMC20_ was listed as an unboxed Pixel 6 Pro. It is not, in fact, a Pixel 6 Pro.

Google phones have a long history of unusual leaks, but even by Pixel standards, this one is weird. It’s also the second time a Pixel 7 Pro prototype has appeared in the past week. In case you missed the first installment of this saga, someone listed a Pixel 7 prototype on eBay. As an Android expert Mishaal Rahman notedthe photos seem to have been taken with other prototype unit: a Pixel 7 Pro, visible in the reflection on the phone’s glossy rear panel. The person who bought the prototype 7 Pro on Facebook thinks his phone is the same one he used to take these photos.

The buyer says this phone was advertised on Facebook Marketplace as a Pixel 6 Pro without a box.

Google previously announced the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro in its I/O keynote last month, revealing what the devices will look like and… not much else. It is very likely that they will make their official debut in October with Android 13. These alleged prototypes also didn’t shed much more light on what we can expect from the phones, just confirming that it uses a different modem from the Pixel series. 6 and that it seems to arrive in a variant with 256 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM.

There’s probably not much else we can learn from him either. The buyer of the alleged prototype said the phone was working fine until a few days ago when it appeared to have been remotely wiped. It’s no surprise: if it’s the genuine item, Google would have such protection if the phone is lost. But given the Pixel Series’ recorded audio, it probably won’t be long before we see another leak.
