Julian Fernando works with a smile behind his stove while the music hangs out in his restaurant called “Chez Julian”. For today’s menu, “it’s tartiflette au Mont d’Or”, announces the manager of the place for 5 years. “And for the next food packages delivered to the ALEDD association, it will be chicken for Tuesday, beef for Thursday and finally fish for Friday”, he says excitedly, dressed in his black kitchen jacket with a bright red collar.
Sixty meals are offered
On the occasion of the Christmas holidays, “as in all previous years”, the restaurateur decided to make a donation to an association. “It was the Red Cross for years, and then Secours Populaire. For the year 2022, he addresses the Association for the Link, Mutual Aid and the Right to Difference (ALEDD), located in Besançon. “A regular customer told me a lot about this structure,” he explains. Since 1998, Yannick Varin, its president, has welcomed young people with disabilities and offered them sports, cultural and leisure activities several days a week. Support is also offered to families through exchange meetings. On December 27, 29 and 30, the restaurant “Chez Julian” will offer about sixty meals to these children with specific needs.
“A nice gesture”
“As an association, our economic model is not viable. We are primarily dependent on public subsidies,” says Yannick Varin. The president of ALEDD adds: “We therefore need to find additional funding to maintain our operating style. And precisely a nice gesture, commercial like Julian’s, allows us to save money that we can invest in other activities,” he continues delighted with this donation.
“It’s not much, but it’s always a little extra. I do it discreetly, for the sake of my personal conscience,” replies the restaurateur. He smiles: “It’s normal to show solidarity and give presents at Christmas.”
