A case of dengue identified in the Var

This disease, normally rather tropical, was detected in the Var. It is the town hall of Fayance which announces on its social networks, on August 9, that a resident has contracted it, without having traveled in recent weeks.

Of the sometimes severe complications

Dengue fever is contracted after a mosquito bite and the consequences can be serious. The symptoms are similar to those of the flu, with fever and joint pain. Its complications can be severe, ”recalls Public Health France. This is why the Regional Health Agency (ARS) wants to organize “a mosquito control on a perimeter of 200 meters around the contaminated house”, on the night of Thursday to Friday.

Officers are also going door to door to warn residents. “There are less than 100 people affected. “To date, it would only be an indigenous case. He would not have traveled and would have been contaminated here, ”warns the ARS.

The mayor wants to be reassuring

“Close your windows, bring in your pets and laundry. Leave free access to your garden to ARS agents. Do not eat fruits and vegetables from the garden within 48 hours of treatment,” the municipality asks on Facebook. “You shouldn’t panic or panic in the event of a mosquito bite. There are usually some in the area. These are old marshy lands, a little humid. This is the first time I have witnessed this type of incident. It’s exceptional”, reassures the mayor of the town, Bernard Henry.

Remember that dengue is not transmissible from person to person. “An infected person is contaminating mosquitoes when the virus is present in his blood, that is to say during the viraemic phase of the infection. This begins approximately 2 days before the onset of clinical signs and lasts up to 7 days, ”concludes the ARS.
